NHL Lockout Revisited

All

Here we are on December 6, 2012, and still no resolution to the NHL lockout in sight.

Surprised?  Ask me in January.

As I suggested back in September 2012, this dispute is about ego and the each side’s desperate need not to lose.  A tenuous relationship between the players and owners is at the core of this dispute, built on the outcome of the
2004 work stoppage where the season was lost and a resolution only found after a humiliating disintegration of the NHLPA’s leadership and spirit.

Ken Dryden has written a thoughtful piece in today’s Globe & Mail that echoes my sentiments.

Ever the optimist, I feel we’re closer than ever to a resolution if for no other reason than time is running out on the season, and I do not believe that the NHL can afford to lose another season.

There will be hockey in January 2013.
